Mentor Advice Helps You Prosper
Seeking the advice of a sponsor or mentor can be important in many professional fields and personal endeavors. Having an Alcoholics Anonymous AA sponsor in an integral part of the peer to peer program. In business, identifying someone further up the ladder than you are can help you climb it too. Here are some tips about approaching a mentor, so as to effectively establish a mentor and mentee relationship that works:
- It’s not all about you. If you have the attitude that your mentor should give, give, give to you, forget it. Being a “taker” in life never works, and won’t help a career or an alcohol rehab recovery. Try giving value everywhere in life, and some day someone will pop up who is in a position to give value to you.
- Don’t look too hard. Sometimes it happens that the best adviser for you, is someone who does not come to mind immediately. There is a little know, but very effective, quiet road to the top of the corporate ladder. These folks succeed by being there, keeping their heads down and doing the work, while others grand stand. This is an ideal mentor for you, since these people already have proven to be both successful and survivors on the corporate landscape.
- Cast a wide net. Look in other fields besides your own. In our circle of friends you may already know somebody who knows someone who could help you. Being fro two different fields allows you to be able to transfer lessons from one career area to another means that you are not competing in the same arena as your mentor, so that’s a good thing.
Sometimes it can be frustrating not to have a mentor when you are looking for one. All you can do is move forward, and ask yourself what your mentor would say if he were here to give you the necessary advice. One day it will happen that someone arrives to be your sponsor.
Cross Country Running For Self-Confidence
Of all the sports you can do, cross country is certainly one of the most unique. But according to Andre Kaokane at Cross Country Running Shoes 101, it can also be a powerful tool for changing the quality of your life. The benefits of running as part of a cross country team can far eclipse the mere physical improvements that happen at the same time.
Using cross country running, you can build healthy habits, strength, and self-confidence that you can carry with you for the rest of your life. Here’s a few tips on how to achieve this:
Positive Peer Pressure
Peer pressure can be used in a positive sense to motivate you to excel. If used correctly, the benefits of running with other runners on a team can be very powerful. They can motivate you to be the best runner you can possibly be.
The bonds you form with your teammates are unlike any others you have in life. In this setting of camaraderie and team spirit, everyone’s performance can be raised to new levels. Through your words and your actions, you inspire each other to be better runners and better people.
Stress And Rest
The best formula for becoming a better cross country runner is “Stress and Rest”. The stress we mean here is the physical stress that happens during your workouts each day: the endurance runs, speed work, hill running, and other training drills. Each time you experience these stresses, your body responds by adapting. You get stronger, or faster, or more efficient, in order to meet the next set of challenges.
Don’t forget the “Rest” part of the formula. The real progress happens when your body is resting. That’s when the muscular and cardiovascular systems operate to repair and improve themselves. They can’t do that when they are busy performing the work of running. So schedule in enough rest days to allow your body to rebuild itself even stronger and faster than before.
So lace up your cross country shoes, get out there, and have fun running!
Think Before You Act: Retiring Out of the Country
A sizeable section of seniors citizens are choosing to retire outside the US. That’s because many foreign countries offer a lower cost of living to retirees, apart from the excitement of living in an exotic new locale. A lower cost of living, though important, should not be the only parameter to be considered when making such a life-changing move. Here are a few tips:
Is this for you? Consider the change that comes with living in a new place. The familiarity, the services and convenience you enjoy in American cities may not be available where you are planning to move. You have to be okay with that. If you are not fascinated with new cultures and like familiarity, then maybe moving out of the US may not be the right option for you and you should look into investment property in Phoenix AZ.
Make your money go farther. Several Latin American countries can offer incentives to retirees that make relocating a very attractive option. Panama, for instance, has pension programs which offer discounts on utilities, airline tickets, doctor bills, hotel stays, and even movie tickets and cultural events. You need a fixed pension of $1,000 a month for an individual, plus an additional $250 a month per dependent, Social Security checks included.
Do your homework. Information gathering about the place you are considering is indispensable. Talk to experts and expats. Look through online resources. Visit the place you have chosen during its various seasons to understand the weather. If you have chosen a city, rent and stay in various areas before choosing.
Work out the logistics. Taxes, budgets, investments, and documents are some things that can be challenge to handle from outside the US. Employ the services of a professional to sort out tax work, especially in your first couple of years abroad.
Rethink your finances. Maintain two bank accounts. A new bank account in the new country to be used for day-to-day transactions. And the old one in the States to handle to bill payments for your home there and for federal income taxes.
Maintaining a US address (with something like Phoenix investment property) helps you keep a U.S. bank account. Your Social Security checks too can be deposited into a U.S. bank account and can be accessed from outside. Save on the conversion fees by getting yourself a Visa or MasterCard in your new country.
Protect your health. Research your health-insurance options. In some countries you can save a lot of money through inexpensive and accessible government-sponsored health care.

Your Sayings About Life Are What Create Your Life
Everyone is different. Some people feel their life is amazing, while others feel terrible on a daily basis. Some people live their dreams while others feel like they are living a nightmare. This huge variety leads one to wonder just what makes the difference in how people’s lives come out. You could say it it is simply fate. On the other hand, you could decide to believe something more empowering. I believe that our sayings about life create our experiences.
We all have unconscious habits of how we think about our lives. These habits have influences in our childhood, but they are also under our conscious control and can be changed anytime. Everyone has different interpretations of reality. For example, one person may interpret failure as a learning experience, while another person may decide that failure is a reason to quit.
There are a multitude of influences for our sayings about life and our belief systems. The biggest influencers are family and peer groups. If you grow up with friends who constantly make comments like “I’m a failure”, you too may start to believe such a thing. You must realize though that you are the only person who has total control over your thoughts and beliefs. Outside stimuli may influence them, but you are the only master of your mind. If you don’t like your habits, you can change. What sayings about life would you believe if you knew anything was possible? Perhaps you’d chose to replace a fear of failure with a belief like that of Theodore Roosevelt: “The only man who never makes a mistake is the man who never does anything.” Remember, your environment does not control you. YOU control you.
You are in control of your life. You can choose to accept the life metaphors that your upbringing has given you. Or instead of leaving things up to chance, you can consciously evaluate your beliefs. Figure out what is healthy and what isn’t, and believe things that empower you.

Back Problem Prevention In Kids
When you were a kid, were you nagged a lot by your mother to sit up straight and stop slouching? This is especially true if you are a guy because you’re supposed to be proud and have your shoulders back and chest out. However, looking back, aren’t you glad you listened to your mother’s advice? This is especially true when you consider how many kids have poor posture nowadays due to the proliferation of technology.
Computers are now an essential tool to have in the house for homework purposes but obviously, you can waste a lot of time surfing the Internet and playing video games on them too. And it’s not like the kids take regular breaks on them but some kids are spending hours at a time sitting hunched over the computer. On so many levels this is a problem: lack of exercise and physical activity, bad posture, and eye strain. Health care experts recommend taking a break every twenty minutes to stretch and give the eyes a rest.
And as stated, the lack of physical activity and being hunched over a computer presents a problem as well. Not only are kids getting fatter but their spinal characteristics now resemble that of older adults. Kids now are getting humps on their backs and rounded shoulders – and this is before they even hit puberty. If this is the case for your kid, it is recommended that you take him to see a physiotherapist to see what can be done to straighten out his back. Most likely, a posture corrector brace will be recommended but if that is too bulky, a back support girdle is also an option where it’s a thin compression undergarment that can pull the shoulders back and leave the chest open.
Your kid might also think that you are nagging him with regards to all this good posture business but just like you learned to appreciate your mother later on, so will your kid appreciate you in the future.
H1N1 Swine Flu Facts
We all need to get educated about this issue. The mass hysteria which has been created by the media and the government needs to be questioned. Don’t be a sheep – question, learn and object to this atrocious abuse of power.
Important Info on H1N1 Vaccine
Just watched and read a very good and very important post over at Mercola.com about H1Ni. He interviews Barb Loe Fisher who is the Founder of the National Vaccine Information Center. There are also great clips from the latest 60 Minutes episode which aired last Sunday.
The H1N1 push is such and important issue and we all need to be thankful for Dr. Mercola and good journalism like that presented on 60 Minutes which educates the public. We all need to stop buying into the mass media ‘propoganda’ being pumped through the 6 o’clock news by the Pharmaceutical industry. We all need to get educated about these issues. This is the kind of thing which could wipe out the human race and I’m not talking H1N1 I’m talking about the rushed vaccines that people line up for!
As Fisher says in the video, “Every vaccine has side affects!”
Read – research – study and ask the questions. And don’t think for a minute that the 6 o’clock news is providing any kind of valuable information! We all need to take time to get educated about anything the government or the news tells us ‘We have to do.’
