Pet Peave
I’ve got a ‘Pet Peave’ that’s bugging me once again. It’s getting to be that time of year to plan parties – Thanks Giving Parties, Halloween Parties, Christmas Parties, New Years Parties… and the list goes on. Can you tell I like to party?!?
We really enjoy entertaining and having people over. Plus we like to throw a good bash with extras – enough food, drink and space so everyone can have a good time. To pull it off we need to know how many people are coming. So, we always send out an invite with an ‘RSVP’.
Now to me ‘peave’ – over the years fewer and fewer people ‘respond’. We have to follow up and follow up and people often say one of two things – ‘Sure we’re coming.’ (Thanks I guess I need to be a mind reader) OR, and this one really gets my goat, they say, ‘Oh, we’re not sure yet.’ In other words, we’ll be there if nothing better comes up. In the words of that proverbial sage, Jar-Jar Binks ‘How wooood!’
What has happen to common courtesy and an understand of basic etiquette? I even ran into someone the other day, a Doctor none the less, who didn’t bother sending an RSVP to a wedding invite. Yes, it is extremely rude and I for one have a little 3 strike rule – three non responses and you’re off my invite list!
