Where are the Cheapest Place to Live?
In todays tough economic times many people are asking, ‘Where should I live? and Where are the Cheapest Places to Live?’
It’s a very good question to ask. The cost of living can vary greatly across the nation and although moving is uncomfortable in the short run it can lead to huge gains in your standard of living. By way of example, Kiplinger.com recently released it’s ranked list of the least expensive places to live in the United States. In position number one is a lovely city called Fort Smith in Arkansas. Ranked in last place as the most expensive city in America is New York. Kiplinger went on to provide some solid data and comparison between the top and the bottom. Think about this: if you are currently living in New York you could move to Fort Smith and still have the same standard of living even after taking a 60% cut in your wages. To put it another way, moving from Fort Smith to New York wold mean you would need to take home 1.6 times the amount just to afford the same standard of living. That’s quite a jump.
Another interesting fact form the Kiplinger report is that they found 7 out of the top 10 cheapest places to be in the south. Two communities were in Arkansas – Fort Smith and Conway. It doesn’t sound too bad. After all is there really any comparison between the warm and friendly south to the cold and frenetic north east?
As our world seems to shrink with high speed travel and communications many people are even looking beyond our borders for the Cheapest Places to Live. The idea of making money and then watching it all get used up by taxes and a higher and higher cost of living is simply too much for many Americans. The idea of living in the tropics with no taxes is now very appealing.
So, whether you’re adventurous enough to consider moving abroad or your simply gutsy enough to skip to another state there are plenty of reasons to move to a less expensive place.
